Summary/Abstract: Efficiency of the container terminals is the key factor from the handling container traffic point of view. The aim of the article is a presentation of the theoretical model of Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) and evaluation of the possibilities of using this method for studying the efficiency of container terminals. The article presents the advantages and disadvantages of the indicator and parametric methods in studying of effectiveness and the DEA method as an example of nonparametric approach. The DEA method does not require knowledge of functional dependency in assessing the impact of input variables on the output ones. For this reason, the DEA method simplifies a multi-criteria evaluation, while eliminating methodological and of interpretation problems, resulting from the use of parametric methods. The article presents the stages of the study, examples of variables for the study and the possibilities of interpreting the indicators based on the results.
