Summary/Abstract: The document illustrates the evolution of the companies in Baja California with data from the 2009 and 2014 economic censuses, with the main objective to analyze the business performance of the MSMEs with a quantitative approach. With that goal, a questionnaire was designed to measure the perception of the owner or manager of the company with respect to said variable. The main findings state that this type of companies is mostly family businesses; their size is mostly microenterprises that carry out service and trade activities. We also found that the manufacturing companies alone generate the greatest sources of employment and that the 50% of people in charge have university studies. However, only 9% use a financial rationality to monitor the performance of the company, highlighting the positive results for asset rotation and net profit margin, but the result of the ROA, although positive, is very low. The main conclusion establishes that MSMEs continue to be conducted empirically in this Mexican region.
