Summary/Abstract: In general, family businesses are associated rather with small entities. Meanwhile, many of the largest companies in the world are in the hands of the family. A perfect example is Wal-Mart, which is at the forefront of the Global Fortune 500 list, what means it is the largest company in the world. The largest family businesses exert a great influence on the global economy, and their participation in the creation of GDP and employment is so significant that this group becomes important global players. For this reason, it is worth devoting more and more attention to them by studying their functioning. The aim of the article was to examine the largest family businesses of the world and their significance for the economies of individual regions of the world. The analysis covered their income, the size of employment, presence on the stock exchange, the length of activity and, what is particularly important from the point of view of their importance for the economy – participation in the creation of GDP.
