The influence of Potential Successors Career Paths on the Succession Strategies in Polish Family Business. The Initial Results Analysis

Summary/Abstract: According to the information provided by research institutions, the growing number of family enterprises faces the challenge of planning and implementing a succession strategy. This phenomenon is particularly important for companies preparing for the first generation change, which takes place in most Polish family businesses. The purpose of this article is to present the preliminary results of conducted studies verifying the approach and views of the generation of potential successors to the transfer of power and property. On the basis of the results, it can be noticed that children from family businesses are choosing a field of study due to the desire to acquire knowledge and skills needed to set up their own businesses rather than the desire to take over parent’s companies. At the same time, differences were noticed when making decisions regarding future professional life depending on the gender of the potential successor.
