Summary/Abstract: The Polish-Russian relations in the area of the Baltic Sea for years were determined by the geostrategic situation of this region. In the decade of 90s of the 20th century, due to the collapse of the Soviet Union, the Russian Federation had to reorganize the security system in mutual relations, as well as with external entities. New status quo was extremely important for Poland, for whom the security was in the so-called gray zone, in a state without any allies. Despite of the political tsunami – collapse of the current international order, Polish-Russian relations in the period of political transformation can be characterised by a desire to establish positive terms and conditions of cooperation with the neighbouring state. However, the relations deteriorated as a result of Poland taking the road to the West, which resulted in the manifestation of Russian geopolitical ambitions, which in the 21st century turned into a phase of disintegration and limited inter-state contacts.
