Summary/Abstract: The subject of this study is the Questions and Answers of Athanasius of Alexandria and Athanasius of Sinai in the Middle Bulgarian Ivan Alexander codex of 1348. The comparison of the text of the 1348 codex with the corresponding text of the earlier Old Russian Svetoslav copy of 1076 found errors and attempted corrections by the east Slavic copyist, as well as repetition, omissions, distortions of meaning and inaccuracies which do not adhere to the original Greek sources. There are also omissions of whole fragments of text and additions, not present in the original, which indicates that the earlier text is not as true to the original Old Bulgarian translation of the Greek sources. The 1348 codex is a precise copy of the original Old Bulgarian translation - the prototype of prototypes, carefully preserved in the King's scriptorium of medieval Bulgaria from the Golden to the Silver age.
