Summary/Abstract: The aim of this paper is to analyze the effects of the economic decline in Latvia on the political system, with a particular emphasis on socio-political divisions. At the core of the analysis are mutual relationships between the economy and the socio-political sphere taking place in Latvia during and after the crisis. In the first part of this article, the determinants of the economic collapse in Latvia will be defined, and both the external and the internal circumstances of the crisis situation will be taken into account. The second part of the article will describe how the economic crisis affected the political system in Latvia during the period 2009-2011. At the end, the (im)possible changes in Latvian politics will be defined. Introduction
