Summary/Abstract: The article examines the calendar used by Bulgarian rulers in the early Middle Ages (VII–X century). An analysis is made of the ideas related to the calendar, which were witnessed by the authors of the List of Names of the Bulgarian Khans and Bulgarian Apocryphal Chronicle. As a result, there hes been revealed the historic information in both of the sources that are related to Bulgarian state in the period between VII–X century. The survey also provides information about the year of birth of Tsar Simeon the Great (893–927). The Conclusion is: the Bulgarian calendar is similar to the well-known ancient east calendars. It was bound with the political ideology.
