Summary/Abstract: This article is based on the study carried out by experts of the Eastern Europe Study Centre in 2011 and presented to Lithuania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, diplomats residing in Lithuania and interested Poland’s officials and diplomats during a public speaking event in Warsaw. The purpose of the study was to analyse the recent challenges in the relations between Lithuania and Poland. A long-standing strategic partnership (at least officially and repeatedly declared by Lithuanian politicians) is experiencing a wave of tension and complaints from both sides regarding issues of minority rights and intensified nationalist sentiments. The authors of the study seek to determine the main internal and external factors affecting Poland’s position towards Lithuania in recent years and the most important challenges Lithuania still has to resolve if it wants to get back on track with the ‘strategic partnership’ with Poland.
