Summary/Abstract: The present article analyses the designation “of good faith” which is bestowed on Tsar Symeon in two Old Bulgarian literature works from the first half of the 10th century – the oldest Life of Nahum and the miscellany (florilegium) Zlatostrouy (Chryssorrhoas). It is established that the epithet “of good faith” was used in connection with Symeon soon after his death in 927 and represented a pre-sacred step toward a local beatification of the Bulgarian ruler. This and other arguments underlie the opinion that the so called “full Zlatostrouy” is actually a second version which was compiled after the death of the Tsar while the writing of the oldest Life of Nahum can be dated to the immediate period after the recognition of the autocephaly of the Bulgarian church.
