Summary/Abstract: The aim of the study was to investigate the location of modern industrial zones in relation to the location of intermodal terminals (containers) and to make recommendations in terms of increasing the use of rail and intermodal transport. As analysed industrial areas, the author has included special economic zones and industrial and technological parks. The differences between the declared and actual transport and industrial policies of the state are also presented. The present article is a diagnosis of the conditions for the use of railways and intermodal transport by companies operating in industrial zones. The processes that have taken place since the beginning of the systemic transformation in the development of industrial zones and intermodal transport in Poland have been taken into account. According to the research, access to intermodal terminals was limited. For the location of industrial zones, the possibility of connecting a railway siding or the distance from container terminals was considered to a small extent. This constituted a barrier to the development of intermodal transport in Poland, increased the cost of external transport and its negative impact on the environment.
