Summary/Abstract: The Romanian XVIIIth century is illustrative for a most powerful influence of the Levant, which came as the last pulsation of the Turkish and Greek great influences, before the modernity was born, at the beginning of the XIXth century. This is a world of all excesses, of ostentatious luxury and celebration of the human body. Yet, beneath this cover of shalowness glimmered a certain philosophy of life, a way of conceiving destiny and an attitude towards the great importance of life in all its manifestations.
