Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the subject of motivating knowledge workers in the IT area. Based on literature studies and own research, conducted in two knowledge-based organizations, of the IT sector, an attempt was made to identify the expectations of employees on the one hand, and actions that companies should take to meet the growing demands of the IT professionals. In particular, based on the research, the following questions were asked: What is the most important factor for the surveyed knowledge workers (determination of the value system)?; What elements are the most motivational for the respondents?; What are their expectations towards employers? The research results show that knowledge workers in the IT area highly estimate family values and expect working conditions supporting work-life balance. At the same time they also expect good atmosphere at work, suitable remuneration and the possibility of self-realization.
