Summary/Abstract: The first article which presents the hymnographic works of Sondock, a diplomat, warrior, aristocrat and hymnographer of king Boris’s, focuses on a number of things related to the Golden age: first of all, the bagatur Sondock writes hymnographic texts (acrostics) during or after his diplomatic career, he translates Greek canons by Byzantine authors. Second, the author uses different signatures which correspond to his signatures in the historical records of 9 – 10th century. Third, he has as many works as St. Kliment Ohridsky (even more than his hymnographic texts known to us today). Fourth, Sondock’s signatures are complicated enough not to be found by unprepared bookmen, only elite hymnographs of the epoch have access to them. Fifth, in his acrostics he uses cryptographic systems, a characteristic feature of the Cyrillic writing. Sixth, the hymnographer Sondock works with co-authors, some of them are definitely foreigners to the royal court in Preslav.
