“Myasoedov’s Case”. A New Stage in the Study, or Running in a Circle

Summary/Abstract: The article considers the trends of further research of the “Myasoedov’s case” circumstances, its impact on the political situations in Russia in 1915–1917. Author’s position is based upon new documents discovered from the Russian archives, as well as on critical analysis of monographs and articles published earlier. Again and again, for example, states that “Myasoedov’s case” is totally falsified by Russian counterintelligence at the direction of the Supreme Commander to divert public attention from the destruction of the 10th Army and other tragic events in the Russian-German front. Defamation exposed employees of intelligence and counterintelligence in one way or another related to the “Myasoedov’s case”. The author is bound to admit that this is typical for some Russian and foreign historians. A number of documents found by the author in the Russian archives, provides a basis to doubt in the validity of the assessments, which become conventional in the “Myasoedov’s case”, as well as actions and professional training of police, intelligence and counter-intelligence of the tsar’s army. But the author believes that it is too early to talk about the end of the study of the topic and encourages avoid categorical judgments and estimates that are not based on new archival and other sources.
