Summary/Abstract: Christoph Gottwald (1636–1700) was one of the most important physicians and collectors living in Danzig in the 17th century. As a student of Franz de la Boë Sylvius, he graduated from Leiden University. He was a doctor of medicine and philosophy and a prominent artisan, first and foremost a draughtsman. In his printed legacy, one may find a few copperplates depicting his research tools (surgical and anatomical instruments, microscopes, a vivisection table, pigments etc.). It is a unique historical collection displaying the instrumentarium of a naturalist living in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth in the late 17th century.
