Le centre de céramique Dumeşti dans le contexte de la poterie moldave

Summary/Abstract: The specialized literature mentions the Dumeştii Vechi village as one of the representative ceramics centre of the second half of the twentieh century. The village is placed in the centre of The Moldavian Plateau, in an area woith old pottery centres and it is known for its production of enamelled polychrome ceramics as well as for its various kinds of pots with aesthetical and practical character. The simple or notched circular lines together with the decorative motives of Tansa ceramics – the little fir tree, the peacock tail – give the characteristic note of this ceramics, that uses mostly the white, blue and brown colours. As forms, we mention: milk pots, zugs, pitchers, flower pots and bowls. The most important representant of this ceramics centre was Jenică Castan, who passed away recently, he acquired this occupation (handicraft) from his father Constantin Castan. At the present, we don’t have information about another handicraftsman’s existence in The Dumeştii Vechi village, wich makes us sorry for the Jenică Castan’s premature loss, as he was the only person that could realize the link between the past – the present and the future regarding this handicraft.
