Metaphor of lieux de mémoire

Summary/Abstract: In the last two decades we are witnessing systematically increasing interest in research on lieux de mémoire. While a good many of regional, national and supranational historical and sociological projects are formally devoted to lieux de mémoire issues, the term itself, its significance and reference is being left behind their scope. The author claims that lieux de mémoire are the metaphorical expressions characterized by varying, dependent on context, meanings; secondarily influencing the way of considering the reports towards the memory of the past. In the article the author distinguishes four basic meanings of the metaphorical expression lieux de mémoire and describes four different ways of analyzing the phenomena of its commemoration
