Summary/Abstract: In classical Turkish literature the concepts of love, the object of love, and the state of being in love are seen through the prism of divan poetry paradigm. Poets consider Love in two aspects, material and mystical. When Love is expressed in its material aspect, they describe their beloved woman through certain universal means of expression. They analyze the Love theme, refracting it through the prism of the human relations in the Feudal community through the oppositions Ruler – subjects, and Ruler – Slave. The person in love is a slave and his beloved woman is the Sultan. She is idealised. In love Masnavi, love between man and woman is presented with multidimensional physiological depth, through their feelings, mishaps and suffering.
