Summary/Abstract: The article concerns as important issue, which is street children. Given the fact that there are about 90 million children in the world living on the streets today, 400,000 in Poland, it is a serious social problem on a global and local level. This phenomenon requires certain measures of prevention, intervention, education, integration within the entire social welfare system. In the text, in addition to the recommendations, we presented theoretical approach to this problem (definition of child street, selected typologies, sources and consequences of this situation), and results of tests conducted in Torun, on the functioning of children in their free time on the streets. The results of these studies show that street children are perceived stereotypically. Meanwhile, these children have specific ideas for their future, they can identify solutions for their difficult situations, and know their strengths. Their only problem is loneliness and the lack of support from adults, parents, teachers who should be their authorities. The study also pointed out the role of the streetworking as an alternative method of working with street children.
