Summary/Abstract: Private property theory is one of the topics discussed in the history of political philosophy. One of the basic concepts of this discussion is “labor”. Philosophers such as Grotius, Hobbes and Locke have accepted the right to private property as a natural right. On the other hand, they based their ideas on natural rights. In the capitalist period, the theory of private property was accepted as one of the basic principles of capitalism. Philosophers like Ayn Rand and Adam Smith stated that private property should be protected by the state. According to these philosophers, property is a right and cannot be extorted. In contrast, Anarchist philosophers such as Godwin, Proudhon, Bakunin and Kropotkin criticized the theory of private property and claimed that private property was a means of exploitation and unjust. Marxism also criticized private property and claimed that private property was bourgeois exploitation. Anarchists and Marxists have advocated the elimination of private property in this respect.
