Summary/Abstract: The concept of tonal hierarchy was introduced in the 1980s by American researcher Carol Krumhansl to designate the degree of perceptual stability the sounds of a key have for a listener. Starting from the field of musical perception, this concept has been developed since then in various types of research, being used, for example, to create algorithms capable of automatically identifying the key of a musical piece. The present study aims to use this concept on an electronic corpus of traditional Romanian music (Romanian Folk Song Database) in order to draw similarities and differences between different folk genres.
