Summary/Abstract: Usul-i jadid was an educational and intellectual movement that was active in the late 19th and early 20th century on the northern Turkic peoples. This movement was a social change due to the fact that it also carried the characteristics of social transformation process. The goal of this social change was to establish an information society. Therefore, education activities were put into the center of the movement. To explain the social transformation dimension of the usul-i jadid, the social transformation theories have been examined. Afterwards, the characteristics of the usul-i jadid movement regarding the social transformation have been addressed. At the end of the study, usul-i jadid has been reinterpreted within the framework of the social transformation theories.
