Summary/Abstract: The current paper is intended to focus on the analysis of the most relevant examples of diplomatic phrases that can be found within the text of Heart of Darkness. Throughout the novel, diplomatic language plays an important part in disguising the real reason for the presence of a European ivory trading company in a remote territory situated in the middle of the jungle.
