Palliative care within the civilization: theological-bioethical study

Summary/Abstract: The Church supports spiritually her sons, the faithful ones, from cradle to the grave. In every aspect of life, be it happy or sad, the Christian finds Christ in the Church and brings Him in his life. But unfortunately, the moments of faith for most of the Christians are when they are faced with a disease or at the end of their life, when, while in agony, the Christian wants to retrieve what he had lost by leading a too agnostic life: the faith in God. Nevertheless, God is close to every person who prays to Him and is devoted to Him. Besides the palliative care offered by modern medicine for the terminally ill persons, the Church adds spiritual support. If the body eaten by disease cannot be saved anymore, the soul can rediscover itself and aspire to salvation. The palliative care supposes a double act, medical and spiritual, through which the dying person finds his spiritual balance and blurs his physical pains. Moreover, in the context of the consumerist philosophy whose effect is the degradation of man, the palliative care becomes a saint and noble alternative to euthanasia.
