Crisis of Christian Family in Polish Society Today

Summary/Abstract: Family, morality and religion are foundings of social life. The crisis met in Europe and Poland have consequences in: contemporary cultural changes, which pay attention on individual and egocentric system of values, then on familiar and communal qualities. This lead to crisis of institution of family; radical pluralism, tolerant for contradictory values and norms, which make notion, that everything is legal and lead to separation of religon from society and faith from morality; weakening the impact of religious tradition and christianity, as the subject of socialization and education The concept of the family and its forms have evolved over the years. Initially, dominated patriarchalism - man, as head of the family, had the most power in the family. The women were intended for role of a mother and housewife. In the modern era, we can observe new phenomena. First of all, the authority in family is restricted by the law of the state. This is due to the emergence of the courts of care, which may deprive parents of their parental rights. Also the nature of marriages changes, which are contracted rather to fill the emotional and sexual needs, then reproductive and not economic purposes. In addition, the increasing financial independence of women effects in increasing number of divorces. This also create a family without a formal verification of the compound. Well known phenomenon is openness of homosexual relationships and commitment to their formalization. Another form of the modern family is a “Foster family” and so-called “single parenthood”, which is usually linked with single mothers raising children. Every generation has its own distinctiveness, its characteristics. This is natural, because life does not copy the past. Time doesn’t stop, and using previous experience, constantly moving forward. Our age of secularization and relativism require from us, orthodox people, special vigilant not to lose this great spiritual and cultural heritage of the holy Orthodoxy, which was granted for us by our ancestors. Orthodox family should help in many ways in this work.
