Slava Ukrayini, heroyam slava! Ukrainian Insurgent Army from View of Ukrainian Insurgents and Inhabitants of Rivne Area

Summary/Abstract: The Ukrainian insurgent army is traditionally seen as supportive of the Nazi regime. This approach is, however, problematic because attention is not paid to Ukrainian perspective. Perspectives of Ukrainian narrators (former soldiers and collaborators of the Ukrainian insurgent army) or even perspectives of other Ukrainians are marginalized. An important reference for their discourse is the Soviet regime in Western Ukraine. Its policy during the years 1939-1941 is negatively interpreted and this is a crucial factor for interpretation of the following Nazi regime. This autochthonous view should not be marginalized while evaluating Ukrainian nationalism.
