Summary/Abstract: The paper Eparchy of Debar and Veles in the Reports of its Secretary 1901–1902 emerged exclusively as a result of several reports developed by Jovan Ćirković. Being the first Secretary and Assistant in the Orthodox Eparchy of Debar and Veles he sent mentioned reports to Mihailo G. Ristić, Consul General of the kingdom of Serbia to Bitola. The reports described visitations and activities conducted in difficult conditions by Metropolitan Polycarp, as well as how he was treated in kičevo, Debar, Galičnik, Poreč, Veles, the places being under the jurisdiction of his eparchy, but they also describe his journeys to Tetovo and Skopje. In addition to this, they drew attention to general situation in the area, ethnically mixed Eparchy of Debar and Veles, a region where national, religious and political interests amongst Serbs, Bulgarians, Turks, Albanians, Aromanians and Greeks coincided. It was also an area of misrule, terror and plunder committed by local powerful people and outlaws, a region where people were frequently murdered as well.
