Summary/Abstract: Under the pressure of globalisation and immigration, the endemic populations of Western Europe in general and Norway in particular, seem to go back to their cultural roots in order to find an identity. Norse mythology has therefore become fruitful once again and Norse myths, gods and symbols are brought back to life in order to stress the feeling of ethnic belonging. In the present paper I argue that the Norse god of war, Týr, and justice reappears in Norwegian literature as a symbol for contemporary Norwegians who have become tolerant but also as a reminder of, and an urge to appropriate the Viking values of integrity and honour in the contemporary world.
