Summary/Abstract: In this article, the reasons of disagreements on the definition of power in international relations will be examined. There are many different definitions for this phenomenon. The article argues that there are two main reasons behind the differences in the definitions. One of them is due to the differences between languages and the effects of metaphors that are used to characterize this concept. While these metaphors carry more than one meaning in a language, they also tend to completely differ in essence. The other reason is the reflection of ideology and theorists’ thoughts on their own concept of power.
