Summary/Abstract: The article presents the figure of the Canaanite Woman as seen by John Chrysostom in one of his homilies on the Gospel of Matthew. In his narration the preacher focuses on the biblical heroine and her virtues. She is mostly praised for her deep faith, humility, calmness and reason. Even her tenacity in pleading for help for her daughter is recognized as positive and called “goodly shamelessness”. In order to emphasize the merits of the Canaanite Woman Chrysostom compares her with the Jews who spoke to Jesus, the apostles who witnessed the conversation of their Master and the woman and the two influential men who besought the miracle of cure for their children.
