Summary/Abstract: Issues of theoretical and practical significance are discussed, regarding the participation of attesting witnesses in criminal procedure. The requirements for the persons constituted as attesting witnesses and their procedural rights and obligations are analysed. An emphasis has been placed on the reasons for the existence of the attesting witnesses institute, and on its efficiency as a guarantee for the lawfulness and the revealing of the objective truth in criminal procedure.
