Summary/Abstract: Optically Stimulated Luminescence (OSL) is a relatively new technique for dating the last exposure to light of crystal-lattice based materials. This technique requires a high degree of contextual knowledge about the site because the extent of bleaching must be known in order to accurately interpret the obtained dates. Alternatively, OSL readings can be used to test assumptions concerning site formation processes. This paper reviews some basic ideas behind composite applications of this dating technique.
