Summary/Abstract: The archaeological site of Seciu was discovered fortuitously in the middle of the 1970’s and investigated by E. Comsa. The results are unpublished. The site of Seciu (‘To the Firemen’) is almost destroyed by modern houses and farms. In the 1990’s a house was built in the middle of the site. In the summer of 2009 we carried out a rescue excavation because a landowner wanted to build a house that would impact the eastern area of the site. The archaeological investigations identified two habitation levels dated to the early Neolithic and the Eneolithic. In the Eneolithic level several burnt houses were partially identified associated with pottery, stone, flint, horn and copper tools and anthropomorphic and zoomorphic figurines. The Eneolithic level is characterized by vertical stratigraphy; the early Neolithic is inconsistent. Based on the archaeological finds, the first level belongs to the Starčevo culture and the second to the Gumelniţa culture. In this article we introduce our scientific research methodology and some preliminary data concerning the site.
