A COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF THE ENERGY PROFILES OF BULGARIA AND ROMANIA

Summary/Abstract: This paper analyzes the energy profiles of Bulgaria and Romania and makes a comparative analysis of the current energy performance of the two countries. The main purpose is to investigate the state of the energy sector in the reference countries and the opportunity for future cooperation and establishment of trade relations in the energy field. To this end, we have developed energy profiles of Bulgaria and Romania, using a Four-aspect model for building a country energy profile, based on four groups of indicators: macroeconomic, macro-energy, energy efficiency indicators and energy dependence indicators. This allows outlining the specific features of the energy sectors in the two countries. Our findings show that the differences in the energy profiles of Bulgaria and Romania create favourable climate for the development of the trade relations between them in the field of energy and an opportunity for mutual assistance in case of future shocks in the sector.
