Summary/Abstract: One of the three common policies in the Treaty of Rome Establishing the European Economic Community is the Common Agricultural Policy of the European Union. The main purposes of the CAP are increasing productivity through the introduction of the achievements of the scientific and technical progress and optimal use of the factors of production. Moreover, the CAP is aimed at providing a good level of living standard of the rural population, stabilizing markets of the agricultural goods and providing reasonable prices for the consumers of the agricultural goods. Bulgaria's accession to the European Union gives the country an opportunity to be not only an object of influence of the Common Commercial Policy but also an active factor for its formation. This can be a result of thorough knowledge of the CAP as well as the tendencies for its development, with the purpose of adapting the peripheral economies to a dynamically changing environment.
