Summary/Abstract: Personal data, GDPR, data protection, technical and organizational measures, data processing notification, cookies policy, all these words are fully present in our lives nowadays, upon the fact that the new european data privacy laws came into force (Regulation no. 679/27.04.2016 on the protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data and free movement of such data – the “GDPR”). These days several companies and / or freelancers (doctors, public notaries, accountants etc.) ask themselves if the new regulation concern them and if so how to prepare in order to fullfil the data privacy requirements. Several questions are involved: Do I need the employees consent in order to process their data ? Do I need my clients consent ? How can I get the consent ? Public information is still personal data ? Can I still use CCTV ? In order to fully understand the GDPR we consider that it’s crucial to understand the main block of this piece of legislation, namely to understand the concept of “personal data”. So, in the first part of this material, we are going to present several examples of information that represent personal data according to the competent authorities. The second part contains several rules based upon any person can determine if some particular information represents personal data or not.
