Summary/Abstract: In this article, we focus on two groups of Czech verbs, lexical and syntactic reciprocals. We provide an analysis of their syntactic properties with respect to reciprocity and reflexivity, their possible ambiguity and combination. We demonstrate that it is the reflexive pronoun and its surface expression that play a key role in the studied phenomena. In the case of ambiguity, both reciprocity and reflexivity affect the same pair of situational participants / valency complementations; the reflexive pronoun occupies the same syntactic position and it corefers with the plural subject. In contrast, when these phenomena combine, different pairs of participants / complementations are involved. We also show that lexical and syntactic reciprocal verbs differ with respect to the studied phenomena.
