Summary/Abstract: {The Academic Dictionary of Contemporary Czech (Akademický slovník současné češtiny)} builds on the tradition of general monolingual dictionaries that emerged at the Institute of the Czech Language in the 20th century. Each of them represents a distinctive lexicographical work, nevertheless they all register the information on valency (sometimes only implicitly). In the new monolingual dictionary the principle to write down both the right and the left valency for verbs, as well as the right valency for some adjectives and for corresponding deverbal and de-adjectival substantives, is applied. Due to this practice the lexicographic team is stimulated to carry out their own research on valency: although several valency dictionaries are available, they appear insufficient both in terms of the quantity of the word-list and of the spectrum of valency frames. Moreover, their conceptual approach is significantly different.
