Summary/Abstract: Legislation relating to tourism is a very specific element of the legal order. It is predominantly very modern legislation. Nevertheless, the historical development and tradition of tourism legislation are of scientific significance. This brief study is mainly intended to analyse the state of research, to attempt to define tourism legislation and to highlight the main development trends. Previous research of tourism legislation is minimal, for a number of elements almost non-existent. The beneficial possibilities of future research are therefore far-reaching for researchers. The most challenging would certainly be the elaboration of repeated efforts to adopt a law dealing with the position of tourism within the public administration (for example the law on tourism support that was adopted in Slovakia in 2010).
