Summary/Abstract: In today’s world people live quickly, do not look back, and do not plan the future, whereas religion is often pushed into the background. Faith, religion – are not attractive to modern man, because they involve some limitations such as compliance with the dos and don’ts. While religion is out of the canon’s fashion, young people are increasingly fascinated by the magic and divination. The present article introduces the reader into a new form of religion which is a hoodoo. The greatest interest – in the U.S. and the world – has a New Orleans’ hoodoo. This system represents a rich “mixture” of different elements originating from different religions and still growing. The present author has attempted to outline the basic methodology of the hoodoo study, also tried to answer the question whether hoodoo should be situated on the side of magic or religion? What is surprising is the lack of interest in this form of religiosity among the theologians.
