Summary/Abstract: In the following article, we will explore the opportunities presented by Goffman´s dramaturgical approach for research in the Czech field of political science. Although dramaturgical analysis counts among the well-established approaches in other social sciences and humanities, and it has repeatedly demonstrated its power and utility in interpretative Political Science, in Czech Political Science it is still rather overlooked, both as a strategy of research, as well as a useful tool of interpretation. We divided our text into two main parts. In the theoretical part, we will deal with Goffman’s social theory and his analytic toolbox, stressing issues related to research in political science. In the second part, we will present examples of dramaturgical analysis of public and semi-public events, divided into four main categories illustrating the variability (as well as the practical limits) of this approach: Public Spectacle, Collective Ceremony, Dramatization of Symbolic Violence and Dramaturgy of Everyday Life. In the conclusion, we will discuss the strengths and weaknesses of this approach, potential topics for research as well as our experience with dramaturgical analysis when dealing with issues relevant for Czech Political Science.
