Summary/Abstract: To characterize the personality of the clergy diocesan (N = 54) and religious one (N = 25) was used Jung’s theory of psychological type and the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (G) method. The attitude towards the Bible was evaluated by the following test methods: the SIFT method (Mark 9:14–29), Bible scale (biblical conservatism), Horizon preference, Horizon separation, and Literalism scale. The results showed that diocesan priests preferred introversion (59%), sensing (83%), thinking (54%) and judging (74%), while religious priests preferred introversion (64%), sensing (84%), thinking (76%) and judging (68%). The both groups of clergy differ significantly (p < 0.0001) in the dimension thinking/feeling. Among diocesan priests the most common types were ISTJ (31%) and ESTJ (18%), whereas the common types of monastic priests were ISTJ (32%) and ESTJ (28%). In relation to the Bible it was established that religious priests easier then diocesan imagine themselves as participants of the story (p < 0.001), they stronger indentify themselves with the characters (p < 0.0001) and easier make horizon separation (p < 0.0001). Religious priests scored significantly higher results on the biblical conservatism scale (p < 0.0001) and on the literalism scale (p < 0.0001). Psychological type profile of the Polish catholic clergy was compared with the analogue studies from Australia, the USA, the UK and the latest research among academic youth in Poland. The implication of these findings are discussed for developing the capacity of pastoral in light of the redemtorists charisma in the pastoral and evangelizing fields.
