Summary/Abstract: This paper explores how Romanian literary history, which I understand both as discipline and as praxis, has integrated hybrid forms, namely nonfictional and nonliterary texts. I maintain that these texts – such as historical and religious „old” writings, epistles, memoirs, travelogues, or essays – are not just trans-generic and trans-aesthetic in character, but are also transdisciplinary, since they are sampled for study in several areas of the humanities. My focus here is on two hybrid forms, namely the interwar Romanian essay and post-1989 memoirs. After a discussion of the strategies employed by Romanian critics to incorporate trans-literary and trans-aesthetic forms in the disciplinary field of national literature, my aim is to question if a transdisciplinary outlook of the Romanian literature is possible and which could be its guiding principles.
