The burden on labour resources with the consequences of chronic diseases in the perspective of health inequalities in the European Union

Summary/Abstract: The aim of the study was to assess the level of burden on labour resources due to the civilization diseases in the context of existing inequities in health observed in the relation between “old” and “new” Union. The basis of the analysis was data from the WHO database on the number of healthy life years lost as a result of chronic diseases. The analysis covered the population aged 15–69, assuming this age range as potentially productive. The data obtained referred to the years 2000–2015. The results obtained during the study confirmed the preliminary assumption that the countries of Central and Eastern Europe are more exposed to the consequences of chronic diseases.
