Summary/Abstract: This article examine some of identity elements of Baptist ecclesiology and their influences in contemporary society. We assert here there are particular elements of Baptist movement present in democratic contemporary societies. Elements like congregational leadership of the church, Church autonomy, separation of the Church from the State are mandatory elements of democratic societies who were present from the beginning in the Baptist ecclesiology. We explore also the options Baptists had in Romania during communist regime and their reactions toward restrictions the authoritarian regime imposed. The Baptists have two options now: to continue the prophetic work of their ancestors or to try to keep the rights hardly obtained. In the present, the Baptists as any other Christian denomination, should answer to the multifaceted dimensions of their times without loosing their theological patrimony.
