Summary/Abstract: The Romanian primary School of the 19th century would shape the perspective and life principles of those who would live at the beginning of the twentieth century. Romanian education became general and compulsory in the year 1838, but the first significant results began to appear much later. At first, first lessons and textbooks, were central to the spreading of Religious education, but slowly national elements would gradually replace the religious ones. However, we believe that these two elements helped crystallize a Romanian perspective of their present-day realities and in turn would lead, when with the favourable geo-political context, to the realization of the Great Union (1918). The idea of the Union and the joy with which Romanians participated in it, are also an effect, even if not an exclusive one, of the 19th century’s primary education.
