Summary/Abstract: The article constitutes an overview. It provides a synthetic description of the current state of research and the directions for the development of the thought which is focused on the issue of the language of the regulations and legal norms, as well as the language of the legal theory and practice, in the previous century starting from the thirties. Therefore, the most important linguistic and jurisprudential publications were selected which, then, were discussed simultaneously, in a chronological order. These considerations allowed to organize what by 1999 had occurred in the reflection on the legislative language and the legal language in separate academic fields, which, after being combined, laid the foundations for jurislinguistics.
