Summary/Abstract: Blazhe Koneski’s work represents the continuity and realization of the linguistic efforts of the Macedonian enlighteners in the 19th century. He did not only care, preserve and cultivate the Macedonian word, but he also offered a solution for the constitution of a modern, standard language. His relationship with the Macedonian context in the 19th century has been manifested through his numerous poems and statements about people and events of that period. Koneski writes about his predecessors because of the need to "identify with these people and join them in the tradition". At the same time, he shows the inevitable need to accept their energy as the main driving force in modern Macedonian culture. Koneski sends a message to the young poets who should know that "purely formal attitude towards folk poetry will lead them only to repeat what is once said", and tells them to learn the folk poetry well in order to understand that the most important issue is the truth which erupts from the word of our national singer. The main features of his creative approach are tolerance, taciturnity, diplomacy and wisdom which take him on the evolutionary road, the same road walked by Misirkov.
