New Deanthroponymic Urbanonyms in Prague

Summary/Abstract: The paper analyzes the motivation and functions of the deanthroponymic urbanonyms that came into existence between the years 1998 and 2011. As a basic besides the identification function, the commemorative function is delimited in these names. The motivating personality either (1) had a certain relationship to the named place, or (2) was without a personal relationship. The intensity of the commemorative function becomes gradually weakened and replaced by the orientation function. The systemic function creating local systems of names is employed when the personalities motivating the urbanonym belonged to the same professional sphere of social activity. Anthroponymic urbanonym can also have a connotative function, commemorating for example historical events or technical, cultural and other inventions.
